Newmanistas celebrated National Night Out with an ice cream social.
The event was well attended and it seemed that everyone stayed the entire time to visit with neighbors and make new friends while children played soccer or enjoyed the playground.
National Night Out is a nationwide neighbor program to help build community relationships and prevent crime. A press release from the El Paso Police Department says:
“National Night Out is an annual event nationwide designed to strengthen our communities by encouraging neighborhoods to engage in stronger relationships with each other and with their local Law Enforcement partners. The goal is to heighten crime-prevention awareness, build support and participation in local anti-crime programs; and, most importantly, send out a message to criminals that our neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.”
Two El Paso police officers visited - one dressed as a cartoon dog detective. Children of all ages were delighted.
Thanks goes to Becky and Michael Friesenhahn and Abbie and John Majerczyk for providing ice cream and ice cream cones. Board members Sally Ann Sauli, Robert Taylor and Becky Friesenhahn scooped.
